Constitutional Assembly Debates and Committees

Step inside the room where India’s Constitution was argued, shaped, and brought to life.

This section brings together the complete transcripts of the debates held in the Constituent Assembly of India, where the principles, structures, and ideals of the Indian Constitution were carefully argued and shaped. The discussions are available in both English and Hindi and are organized into 12 volumes and 8 Volumes respectively, each covering a specific period of the Assembly’s proceedings, allowing you to follow the constitutional journey as it unfolded over time. Furthermore this section brings various committees to light which played a role in the formation of the constitution.

English Volumes

As these debates draw to a close, they leave behind more than a historical record. The discussions of the Constituent Assembly of India capture the moment when the foundations of the Indian Republic were imagined, argued over, and carefully written into law. Each speech, amendment, and exchange reflects the collective effort to shape a Constitution that could guide a diverse and evolving nation.

Yet the story of the Constitution does not end here. The ideas first articulated in these debates continue to live through judicial interpretation, constitutional amendments, and democratic practice. This collection therefore stands both as the culmination of the Constitution’s making and as the starting point for the many ways in which it continues to grow, adapt, and be reinterpreted over time.
